Practice law 'with one eye of soul turned to God,' lawyers told
Published: 2005-05-04
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (CNS) -- In a May 2 address that pulled no punches about the nitty-gritty of a lawyer's life, a federal judge exhorted fellow practitioners of the law to live "moment by moment in light of eternity" and "moment by moment with one eye of the soul turned toward the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob." U.S. District Court Judge Leon Holmes delivered the keynote talk for a St. Thomas More Society luncheon at McDonald Hall at the Cathedral of St. Andrew following the celebration of the 10th annual Red Mass in the Little Rock Diocese. Describing an attorney's life as one steeped in "conflict" and "uncertainty" as quick decisions are made "on the run, without time for leisurely reflection," Holmes said finding a way to "practice law while simultaneously living a life of faith" can be daunting.
