Iowa siblings find sustenance in service projects here and abroad

DAVENPORT, Iowa (CNS) -- Kate Anderson serves with the Peace Corps in Grenada, thanks in part to the influence of her older brother, Eric. Eric Anderson, 27, works in Charleston, S.C., as a service learning coordinator with the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps. He helps train and prepare AmeriCorps members for service projects they will complete throughout the year while also helping them develop into tomorrow's leaders. In addition to his paid employment, Eric Anderson volunteers with the Sea Island Habitat for Humanity Resale Store in Johns Island, S.C., and with E-Buddies, an e-mail mentoring program for kids with intellectual disabilities. Their parents, Steve and Kathy Anderson of Our Lady of Victory Parish in Davenport, couldn't be more grateful. "It's their turn to make a difference in other people's lives," said Kathy Anderson, who with her husband had just returned from visiting their 24-year-old daughter in Grenada, where she is a resource teacher.
