Christians in Holy Land are still suffering, Patriarch Sabbah says
Published: 2005-03-28
JERUSALEM (CNS) -- Despite the joy of the Resurrection, the Holy Land and its inhabitants are still suffering, said Latin Patriarch Michel Sabbah of Jerusalem. "We remain bent under the burden of the sufferings of this land and this church of Jerusalem and of the meaning of the Christian presence in our midst," Patriarch Sabbah said in his Easter homily. However, with the new Palestinian leader and "determination in favor of peace," Christians are living a "moment of truth," he said in the prepared text of his homily for the March 27 Mass in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. "A moment that could reveal the true intentions of people in terms of peace or war: Are they willing to allow an oppressed people, the Palestinians, to live, or do they simply desire their death and their political disappearance from the map of the Holy Land?" he asked.
