Kansas diocese creates Scout patch to mark Year of the Eucharist
Published: 2005-03-16
DODGE CITY, Kan. (CNS) -- The Diocese of Dodge City's Catholic Committee on Scouting has created a Scout patch to commemorate the Year of the Eucharist. It is believed to be the only religious emblem program of this type in the country. Pope John Paul II announced last June that a year of special emphasis on the Eucharist would be held in the church from October 2004 to October of this year. After the patch was introduced, the diocese immediately "started receiving inquiries from Scout troops in neighboring dioceses," said Tim Wenzl, religious emblems coordinator. "It became apparent from the response that this was something unique for Catholic Scouting and we should make the program available to Scouts across the country." There are different requirements for Scouts in first through fifth grades and sixth through 12th grades and for adult leaders. For information, send an e-mail to Wenzl at: twenzl@dcdiocese.org.
