SUPERIOR, Wis. (CNS) -- People came from around the Superior Diocese Feb. 5 for the dedication of the restored and enhanced Cathedral of Christ the King in Superior, a project that took nearly three years. The ringing of hand bells signaled the beginning of the entrance procession that included Knights of Columbus, representatives of each parish in the diocese and priests of the diocese as well as Father Daniel Dahlberg, who is the cathedral's rector, and visiting prelates. In a ceremony officially handing over the completed cathedral to Superior Bishop Raphael M. Fliss, Father Dahlberg introduced representatives associated with various aspects of the restoration project. Each of them handed the bishop a token that symbolized their responsibilities and labors. Father Richard Vosko, liturgical design consultant, handed over the advance planning document for the project. Architect Robert Semborski handed over architectural drawings, and general contractor Donald Odermann gave Bishop Fliss minutes from the design team's meetings. Father Dahlberg then handed Bishop Fliss the keys to the building and thanked him on behalf of the parish community and the diocese for the "leadership, generosity and service that you have shown us throughout this undertaking." He praised the bishop for having "the courage, the confidence and vision to initiate" the cathedral restoration. Bishop Fliss responded by thanking the whole diocese and all who worked on the project.
