PITTSBURGH (CNS) -- Surrounded by his brother priests, family and friends, a new auxiliary bishop for the Pittsburgh Diocese was ordained in ceremonies Feb. 2. Auxiliary Bishop Paul J. Bradley's joy was evident as he entered St. Paul Cathedral for the ancient ritual that signifies the unbroken line of apostolic succession back to the apostles. A near-capacity audience of more than 2,100 witnessed the event. "You, dear brother, have been chosen by the Lord," said Bishop Donald W. Wuerl of Pittsburgh as he addressed Bishop Bradley about his responsibilities. Bishop Wuerl told the new bishop that his task will be to bear witness to the truths of the Gospels and to minister with truth and justice. He pointed to St. Peter and the Virgin Mary as examples of what it means to answer God's call. He noted that when Peter answered his call, the Lord responded by saying, "Then feed my sheep." In pointing out that Christ comes to the faithful sacramentally in the Eucharist, and in those anointed to celebrate it, Bishop Wuerl said a bishop must be the image of Christ, the good shepherd.
