BALTIMORE (CNS) -- Cardinal William H. Keeler of Baltimore has named Msgr. Steven P. Rohlfs, vicar general of the Diocese of Peoria, Ill., as rector of Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg. Msgr. Rohlfs, 54, succeeds now-Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades, who left the seminary late last year when he was named bishop of Harrisburg, Pa. "I am very confident that Msgr. Rohlfs' leadership will allow the seminary to flourish and that he will build upon the great legacy of the seminary," said Cardinal Keeler, chancellor of the seminary. The appointment was to take effect Feb. 7. Mount St. Mary's is the second-oldest and the second-largest seminary in the country. Its 160 seminarians come from more than 30 dioceses around the nation and from several other countries. In a telephone interview with The Catholic Review, Baltimore archdiocesan newspaper, Msgr. Rohlfs said he is delighted to return to "the Mount," as it is known, where he did his theology studies before his ordination in 1976.
