Cyclist tells Indiana Catholic school students of cross-country trek
Published: 2005-01-27
LOWELL, Ind. (CNS) -- A cyclist who last fall rode with the Bristol-Myers Squibb Tour of Hope across the country, from Los Angeles to Washington, made a return trip to St. Edward School in Lowell to make up for a previously missed visit with students. The Tour of Hope cycling team was initially scheduled to meet St. Edward students as it made its way through Indiana in early October, but because it arrived in Lowell 30 minutes ahead of schedule, team members were unable to meet the students. Mike Siegel, one of the 20 riders on the team, visited St. Edward Jan. 21. Wearing part of the team cycling uniform, a bright yellow and blue top, Siegel, a 44-year-old architect from Wilmette, Ill., talked to students about his personal battle with cancer, the cross-country bike trek and his experiences with six-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong.
