Raleigh Catholic newspaper to convert to monthly magazine format
Published: 2005-01-26
RALEIGH, N.C. (CNS) -- The NC Catholic, newspaper of the Raleigh Diocese, will become a four-color monthly magazine, with the first issue planned to arrive in homes by Easter, March 27. "While this is certainly the most dramatic change in our diocesan publication, the NC Catholic has evolved continually over its history," said Father Joseph Vetter, who headed a publications committee appointed by Raleigh Bishop F. Joseph Gossman to study the feasibility and desirability of converting the newspaper to a magazine format. Father Vetter, a former editor of the newspaper and former chancellor of the diocese, said the paper's "relationship with readers changed when it ceased being a weekly newspaper due to rising costs." He added, "I am confident that a well-written, attractive monthly magazine will have a more positive impact in today's media culture."
