Published: 2005-01-24
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (CNS) -- Auxiliary Bishop John J. Kaising of the U.S. Archdiocese for the Military Services has agreed to serve as episcopal moderator for Worldwide Marriage Encounter, based in San Bernardino. He succeeds Bishop William S. Skylstad of Spokane, Wash., who became president of the U.S. bishops in November. Bishop Kaising will be a liaison between Worldwide Marriage Encounter and the greater church, to address Marriage Encounter on matters pertaining to marriage and family that may be addressed by the U.S. bishops and "to speak the vision, values and mission" of Marriage Encounter, said Bob and Joy Hernandez, the married couple on the Marriage Encounter U.S. Secretariat Ecclesial Leadership Team, in a statement. Bishop Skylstad said, "For over 25 years, Bishop Kaising has worked with Worldwide Marriage Encounter. As one very familiar with the movement and active in its work, he is an excellent choice to become episcopal moderator."
