Cheyenne diocesan newspaper to double publication frequency

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (CNS) -- The Wyoming Catholic Register, Cheyenne's diocesan newspaper, will double its frequency of publication to two issues a month, starting with the Feb. 9 issue. Diocesan leaders called it an innovative shift in the Catholic press, where the trend has been for papers to reduce their frequency. "The Wyoming Catholic Register is the only way that I can visit every home in my diocese," said Cheyenne Bishop David L. Ricken, publisher of the 52-year-old newspaper. "I am delighted that now I will have the opportunity to reach the people in this expansive diocese twice each month." Founded in 1952 as a weekly paper, the Wyoming Catholic Register gradually shifted to a monthly publication and then was published only 11 times a year. "Our newspaper does an excellent job of keeping our people informed about all of the important news and activities," Bishop Ricken said in a statement. "It also educates our readers about their faith and helps to form their Catholic identity. What I also like about the paper is that it highlights all of the ministries in the diocese and the parishes."
