Published: 2005-01-11
FOND DU LAC, Wis. (CNS) -- A grant program run by Marian College to help single parents attend college has received a third series of grants totaling almost $1 million, bringing total funding since its founding in 2002 to more than $2.8 million. The working families grant program awards tuition and stipend grants to economically disadvantaged single parents, who are expected to meet high academic standards and perform 20 hours of volunteer work each semester. In addition, participants are encouraged to use Marian's student support services, including personal counseling, academic advising, social and career counseling, tutoring and mentoring, and are required to complete a career assessment upon enrolling in the program and receive placement support upon graduation.
