Father Place to step down as CHA president and CEO

Published: 2004-12-07

ST. LOUIS (CNS) -- Father Michael Place has announced his resignation as president and CEO of the Catholic Health Association of the United States, effective February. "While there is never a good time to move on, now is the right time for me," said the priest, who has led the St. Louis-based association since 1998. "Though the past seven years have been incredibly challenging, they also have been among the most rewarding of my 30 years as a priest," he added in a statement. Father Place, a priest of the Chicago Archdiocese, announced his decision to resign during a Dec. 3 meeting of the CHA board of trustees in Chicago. He described the women and men who work in Catholic health care as remarkable and added that "to share in that ministry is a treasured gift." Sister Carol Keehan, a Daughter of Charity who chairs the board, thanked Father Place for his leadership over the past seven years and for "his many contributions in promoting the mission of the Catholic health ministry and his focus on seeking a just and transformed national health delivery system."
