SAN ANTONIO (CNS) -- Catholic media organizations and Hispanic users of print, broadcast and audiovisual educational materials plan to meet next October to see how media services can be improved for the growing U.S. Hispanic community. A major aim is to match production in Spanish and English with needs in the Hispanic Catholic community, said Mercy Sister Maria Elena Gonzalez, president of the Mexican American Cultural Center in San Antonio. The cultural center, which trains church personnel for Hispanic ministry, is the main sponsor and organizer of the conference to be held Oct. 12-15 in San Antonio. Also helping organize the conference are the Secretariat for Hispanic Affairs of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops; USCCB Publishing; Our Sunday Visitor Institute, which is helping underwrite the conference; and JM Communications, which specializes in digital media production and training. The invitation-only conference aims to have media representatives interact with catechetical, liturgical and parish leaders from the Hispanic Catholic community.
