Anglican, Catholic representatives discuss next steps in dialogue
Published: 2004-11-17
ROME (CNS) -- Representatives of the Vatican, the Anglican Communion and two official international Anglican-Catholic dialogue groups met in Rome Nov. 14-15 for their annual informal conversations. Archbishop Alex J. Brunett of Seattle, the Catholic co-chairman of the Anglican-Roman Catholic International Commission, said that, although the Anglican Communion is deeply involved in resolving internal divisions resulting from the ordination of an openly gay bishop in the United States, the commitment to dialogue on the part of the Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion has not weakened. Participants at the November meeting, he said, discussed plans for releasing the latest ARCIC document, "Mary, Grace and Hope in Christ," presenting a common approach to faith and traditions regarding the Blessed Virgin Mary. "We want to celebrate the release in a way that will reach as many people as possible," Archbishop Brunett told Catholic News Service. "It's a wonderful document," he said, and it should help "reawaken devotion" to Mary by Catholics and Anglicans.
