North American College launches $25 million capital campaign
Published: 2004-11-17
WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Archbishop Edwin F. O'Brien, chairman of the U.S. bishops' Committee on the North American College, announced a $25 million capital campaign for the college Nov. 17 during the bishops' fall meeting in Washington. The college is the U.S. national seminary in Rome. It also has a graduate house for priests doing advanced degrees at the various pontifical universities in Rome and an institute for continuing education. Archbishop O'Brien, who heads the U.S. Archdiocese for the Military Services, urged the bishops -- many of whom are North American College alumni -- to support the campaign in their own dioceses. He said more than half the $25 million would be used to increase the college's endowment. He said $10.7 million would be used to make necessary improvements at the seminary building on Rome's Janiculum Hill and at the 400-year-old Casa Santa Maria, the graduate house for priests in the center of Rome.
