
Bishops hold elections for conference offices

WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Using electronic voting at their fall meeting, the U.S. bishops zipped through 15 officer and committee elections in short order Nov. 16. They chose a new treasurer-elect for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops as well as two chairmen and 12 chairmen-elect of conference committees. The two chairmen were to take office at the end of the Nov. 15-18 meeting; the others are to take office at the end of the November 2005 general meeting. All terms of office are three years. Bishop Dennis M. Schnurr of Duluth, Minn., a former USCCB general secretary, was elected treasurer-elect over Coadjutor Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann of Kansas City, Kan., by a vote of 143-94. Archbishop James P. Keleher of Kansas City is the current treasurer.
