
Eight bishops to become committee chairs after fall meeting

WASHINGTON (CNS) -- When the fall meeting of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops ends Nov. 18, eight bishops who were elected to committee chairmanships last year will take up their posts. The committees and their new chairs are: Catholic Campaign for Human Development: Bishop Howard J. Hubbard of Albany, N.Y.; diaconate: Bishop Frederick F. Campbell, former auxiliary bishop of St. Paul-Minneapolis who has been named head of the Diocese of Columbus, Ohio; migration: Bishop Gerald R. Barnes of San Bernardino, Calif.; pastoral practices: Auxiliary Bishop Jerome E. Listecki of Chicago; domestic policy: Bishop Nicholas A. DiMarzio of Brooklyn, N.Y.; vocations: Bishop Blase J. Cupich of Rapid City, S.D.; women in society and in the church: Bishop Joseph A. Pepe of Las Vegas; and world mission: Bishop Daniel F. Walsh of Santa Rosa, Calif. All the new chairmen will serve terms of three years.
