CHANCELLORSVILLE, Va. (CNS) -- To support the Special Olympics, a Knights of Columbus council in Chancellorsville is offering for sale a lithograph depicting Pope Pius IX boarding the USS Constitution. "Ship of State," painted by maritime artist Tom Freeman, shows the pope as he went aboard the ship while it was moored in the harbor of Gaeta, Italy, on Aug. 1, 1849, thus making him the first pontiff to set foot on U.S. territory. Freeman, artist emeritus to the U.S. Navy, chose the Battlefield Council No. 10246 as the exclusive seller of the lithograph because of the Knights' commitment to supporting Special Olympics. He presented the original "Ship of State" painting to Pope John Paul II in April 2002. Prices range from $49.95 for the print only to $224.95 for a deluxe framed edition of the lithograph. Tax and shipping are additional. More information, including how to order prints, is available on the Battlefield Council's Web site at: www.kofc10246.org (by clicking on Ship of State prints).
