
Father Hacala formally installed as president of Wheeling university

WHEELING, W.Va. (CNS) -- Jesuit Father Joseph Hacala was formally installed as president of Wheeling Jesuit University Oct. 29. Father Hacala was named to head the university in July 2003 and has been in the position for several months. He previously headed Wheeling Jesuit's office of university mission and identity and was senior adviser for social justice, from 2001 to 2003. From 1980 to 1984 he was rector of the Jesuit community there. In other positions, Father Hacala headed the Center for Community and Interfaith Partnerships at the Department of Housing and Urban Development in 1997-2001, and before that he was director of the U.S. bishops' Catholic Campaign for Human Development, 1990-95. He was director of the Office of Jesuit Social Ministries for the United States in 1984-90.
