Priest, Nobel laureate team up to work on cure for Parkinson's

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (CNS) -- Msgr. Thomas Hartman, a Rockville Centre diocesan priest and popular television personality, and Nobel laureate James Watson of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory have announced a new partnership to find a cure for Parkinson's disease. At a press conference Oct. 25 in Garden City, Msgr. Hartman, who is battling Parkinson's, and Watson announced the effort between the Long Island laboratory and the Thomas Hartman Foundation for Parkinson's Research. Msgr. Hartman started the foundation early this year. "The goal and the mission of the Hartman Foundation is very simple," the priest told reporters and supporters at the press conference. "To find a cure." Toward that end, the foundation has pledged to raise $4.4 million over the next five years.
