
University of Dallas inaugurates its new president

IRVING, Texas (CNS) -- Francis Lazarus, who assumed his new duties as president of the University of Dallas July 1, was inaugurated Oct. 23. The event began with a 9 a.m. inaugural Mass at Cathedral Santuario de Guadalupe in downtown Dallas. A 1 p.m. inaugural ceremony was held at the mall at the University of Dallas, followed by a reception in the Haggar University Center. The 59-year-old native of Elma, N.Y., was inaugurated as the seventh president of the Catholic university that was founded in 1956. The school has an enrollment of more than 3,000 students, including 1,174 undergraduates, 1,485 students enrolled in the Graduate School of Management and 346 liberal arts and sciences graduate students. His last position was provost for the University of San Diego. Lazarus succeeds Msgr. Milam Joseph, who served as president from 1996 until his retirement in December 2003.
