Magazine to replace Erie's 130-year-old diocesan newspaper
Published: 2004-10-26
ERIE, Pa. (CNS) -- The Erie Diocese has announced the end of an era: the Dec. 24 issue of its diocesan newspaper, the Lake Shore Visitor, will be the last issue of the 130-year-old paper. The move is part of an overall restructuring of communications for the diocese, spearheaded by the Office of Evangelization for Communications and Public Relations under the direction of Msgr. Tom McSweeney. The final edition of the Visitor will come two weeks before the introduction of an Erie edition of the bimonthly publication, Faith Magazine, which is published by the Diocese of Lansing, Mich. "The Lake Shore Visitor has a long and illustrious history, which we plan to cover thoroughly in the last four special issues we will publish in December," said Msgr. McSweeney. "But after an intense process of preparing to redesign our communications strategy, we have found what we believe to be a more effective way to continue sharing the good news."
