ST. PAUL, Minn. (CNS) -- Father Larry Snyder, chief executive officer of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, has been chosen as the next president of Catholic Charities USA, officials of the Alexandria, Va.-based organization announced Oct. 21. Father Snyder stepped into the archdiocesan position 13 years ago when his predecessor, Msgr. Jerome Boxleitner, retired after 35 years of service. "I inherited one of the best agencies of the 20th century and was able to bring it into the 21st," Father Snyder told The Catholic Spirit, archdiocesan newspaper of St. Paul and Minneapolis. "The reputation of Catholic Charities is not only locally, but nationally, renowned as being an agency that has quality services but also is very forward-thinking." Father Snyder said he is excited about working with the Catholic Charities USA staff, many of whom he has met through his service as chairman of its National Disaster Relief Advisory Committee. Father Snyder, who was to start his new job Feb. 1, was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis in 1988.
