BELMONT, N.C. (CNS) -- William K. Thierfelder, a sports psychologist and business leader, has taken up his new duties as the 20th president of Belmont Abbey College, a Catholic liberal arts college in North Carolina. He succeeded Benedictine Abbot Placid Solari, who served as interim president for the 2003-04 school year. "Dr. Thierfelder's deep commitment to his Catholic faith, his leadership ability and his interpersonal skills all make him the right person to be entrusted with the mission and legacy of Belmont Abbey College," the abbot said in a statement. A native of New York, the 46-year-old Thierfelder received his master's degree and doctorate in sports psychology and human movement from Boston University.
