Published: 2004-09-16
PHOENIX (CNS) -- Following significant improvements to the Phoenix Diocese's sexual abuse policy and its commitment to protecting children, Maricopa County Attorney Rick Romley announced the completion of a 16-month-old agreement between the diocese and his office. The May 2003 agreement, signed by now-retired Bishop Thomas J. O'Brien and the county attorney, stipulated that the bishop give up some of his administrative duties, among other requirements. The agreement was announced June 2, 2003. The latest announcement came in response to a recent letter sent to Romley by Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted detailing the diocese's compliance with the 14 provisions of the 2003 agreement.
