NEW YORK (CNS) -- The Eastern province of the Vincentians will donate its 70,000-volume theological library, valued at $5 million, to Tanzaga College of the Catholic University of East Africa in Nairobi, Kenya. "St. Vincent de Paul, our founder, said, 'We can create no greater lasting masterpiece for the church than the education of good priests,'" said Vincentian Father Thomas McKenna, Eastern provincial, in announcing the gift. "The donation of our library, kept up-to-date since the closing of our major seminary, assures that Tanzaga College will be able to educate clergy and laity for ministry in the church in Africa with the most comprehensive and current literary resources," he added. The Vincentian theological library began in 1815 when members of the order's Italian province began collecting books for their new mission in the United States.
