Ugandan president visits Catholic school to say thanks for computers

Published: 2004-09-09

BELLEVUE, Wash. (CNS) -- While she was in Uganda earlier this summer to train students in computer basics, Lindsay Donahue enjoyed a brush with fame when Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni drove by. "I thought, 'Oh my gosh, it's the president's car!'" she recalled. The 16-year-old high school junior experienced an even greater thrill Sept. 3 when she shook hands with the Ugandan leader during his visit to her school, Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bellevue. "It's exciting. I got to talk to the president of Uganda," she said minutes after presenting him with a gift from the all-girls school. Museveni, who was in Seattle to attend a conference, stopped by Forest Ridge to thank students and faculty for refurbishing and donating computers to his country's secondary schools. The donation was part of the Computers for Uganda project that involves Forest Ridge, other schools, the Ugandan government, the Rotary Club, Computers for the World, and other businesses and organizations.
