Archbishop Burke promises pastoral letter on voting by Oct. 1
Published: 2004-09-08
ST. LOUIS (CNS) -- Reacting to recent media reports that he said have "generated confusion and frustration," St. Louis Archbishop Raymond L. Burke has announced that his pastoral letter on voting will be published Oct. 1. The archbishop briefly discussed the situation in his weekly column in the Sept. 10 issue of the St. Louis Review, the archdiocese's weekly newspaper. He noted that he first mentioned the pastoral letter in June and that "a number of factors have kept me from finishing the writing of the pastoral letter until now." But he said he wanted to complete the pastoral letter "as soon as possible in order to present clearly the church's teaching and to clear up confusion." The goal of the letter, Archbishop Burke said, is "to assist the faithful of the archdiocese in exercising their civic responsibility, especially the duty to vote, in accord with moral law."
