Published: 2004-09-02
PHOENIX (CNS) -- Following a six-month search for a new managing editor, The Catholic Sun diocesan newspaper in Phoenix has hired John David Long-Garcia to fill the post. Long-Garcia, a native of the Dominican Republic, is fluent in Spanish and English and hopes his life experiences will help the twice-monthly diocesan newspaper reach an even broader audience. "Coming from that background makes me more open to different cultures, different perspectives and different ways of doing things," he said. Long-Garcia, who also has lived in Puerto Rico, said he considers Arizona, where he learned English as a second language, home. A graduate of Arizona State University, the 26-year-old majored in both journalism and psychology before relocating for graduate school, where he earned master's degrees in philosophy and theology.
