
Georgetown professor appointed to UNESCO bioethics committee

WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Dr. Edmund Pellegrino, founder of the Center for Clinical Bioethics at Georgetown University in Washington, has been appointed by UNESCO to serve a four-year term on its International Bioethics Committee. The committee of the U.N. Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization was established in 1993 and is charged with drafting the first document defining a global ethical framework for life sciences. Pellegrino is professor emeritus of medicine and medical ethics, a senior research scholar at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics, and adjunct professor of philosophy at Georgetown.
