ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNS) -- Holy Cross Brother Charles P. McBride, the last of four Holy Cross brothers who once lived together in Anchorage, left Alaska this summer after working for the Anchorage Archdiocese for more than 25 years. "Although I have loved Alaska, I have missed the advantages of living with my religious community," he said in an e-mail to Catholic News Service. "The distance and travel cost has made it impossible for me to share in so many community events and celebrations I would have loved to be a part of. It has also been difficult the last 16 years living up here alone without a community of my own brothers." Brother McBride, now 65, began his career in Anchorage at an archdiocesan summer camp in 1979. He continued in youth ministry until 1981 and has been involved in communications, fund raising and archival work for the archdiocese since then. At the direction of his provincial, Holy Cross Brother Robert Fillmore, Brother McBride returned to the headquarters of the Midwest province at the University of Notre Dame this summer. He plans to take up a full- or part-time position at the university later this year and will continue to work as a photographer for the Notre Dame sports information department.
