Catholics must take church teachings to voting booth, says top Knight
Published: 2004-08-05
DALLAS (CNS) -- Catholics must take the church's opposition to abortion and support for traditional marriage into the voting booth and Catholic politicians must stand up for church teachings, Supreme Knight Carl Anderson told more than 2,500 Knights of Columbus Aug. 3. His comments were part of his annual report delivered during the fraternal organization's 122nd annual convention held in Dallas Aug. 3-5. He focused on the Knights' commitment to issues such as the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban and the Federal Marriage Amendment Act, which would amend the U.S. Constitution to define marriage as being between one man and one woman. "We Knights have no higher calling. We must fight for laws that unconditionally protect the right to life," he said. "And we must carry these convictions with us at election time."
