Published: 2004-08-04
ST. PAUL, Minn. (CNS) -- The University of St. Thomas has announced the creation of the Terrence J. Murphy Institute for Catholic Thought, Law and Public Policy. A collaboration between the university's Center for Catholic Studies and its School of Law, the new institute will explore the various interactions between law and Catholic thought on topics ranging from workers' rights to criminal law to marriage and family. The institute is named for the late Msgr. Terrence Murphy, who served the university for 50 years, including 25 years as its president. He was the university's chancellor when he died in early 2004. To help provide connections between law and Catholic thought, the institute will develop curricular resources, facilitate scholarship and scholarly discussions, and engage and serve the church and community through public events and public policy analysis.
