
Msgr. Marzen, former editor of Hawaii Catholic Herald, dies at age 79

HONOLULU (CNS) -- Msgr. Francis A. Marzen, former editor of the Hawaii Catholic Herald, newspaper of the Honolulu Diocese, and founding pastor of two Oahu parishes, died July 19 at his home in Kaneohe. He was 79 and had been a priest of the Diocese of Honolulu for 53 years. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Aug. 6 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Honolulu. Burial will follow at Hawaiian Memorial Park. Msgr. Marzen was associated with the Hawaii Catholic Herald for 31 years, 21 as editor. Among his parish assignments, he was also the first pastor of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Pearl City and Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Honolulu. He was born the first of four children on March 14, 1925, in Pennsylvania in East Mauch Chunk, now called Jim Thorpe. He attended Josephinum Pontifical College Seminary in Worthington, Ohio, and was ordained on May 26, 1951.
