Doctoral program at Catholic college explores changing populations
Published: 2004-07-22
BALTIMORE (CNS) -- The College of Notre Dame of Maryland will offer its first doctoral program this fall in instructional leadership for changing populations. The program -- focusing on language, culture and language development -- is designed to equip teachers to provide classroom instruction for students who linguistically and culturally are not in the mainstream. Suzanne Shipley, vice president for academic affairs, said, "By assisting teachers to meet the needs of students who linguistically and culturally fall outside the norms established by the majority population, the College of Notre Dame is responding to a regional and national need." Approximately 20 students, most studying part time, will be accepted each year for the program. The first graduates are expected to receive degrees in 2009.
