High school team puts God first to bring home state baseball trophy
Published: 2004-07-20
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (CNS) -- The new Texas state high school baseball champions have got their priorities right -- God first, family second, education third and baseball last. It is this order that led the Corpus Christi Moody Trojans to take the Class 5A state championship this year. "We have simple rules at Moody," said the school's athletic coordinator, Steve Castillo. "I tell (the team) their priorities should be God, family, education, athletics and miscellaneous -- that's the girlfriends. You keep those in order and you'll be all right." The Moody High School baseball team is more than all right now. The team had made it to the state finals eight times before, but this year it brought the state trophy back to Corpus Christi for the first time in 37 years, after defeating the Jaguars of Flower Mound High 6-1 June 12.
