Published: 2004-07-13
WHEELING, W.Va. (CNS) -- Wheeling Jesuit University will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding in 1954 with more than a year's worth of events. In September, the school will hold a kick-off rally and gala, and the anniversary celebration will conclude in September 2005, marking the entrance of the school's first class. In the months in between, the university will sponsor several presentations on the history of the school and the history of Catholicism in the Wheeling area; economic development in the Appalachian region; the school's social justice involvement; and emerging technology from the university's Center for Educational Technologies. "This celebration will be an overview, from our early history to where we are now," said Jesuit Father Joseph Hacala, university president, in a statement.
