Deacons gather in Baltimore to share experiences of ministry
Published: 2004-07-08
BALTIMORE (CNS) -- More than 300 deacons and their wives gathered at Baltimore's Marriott Waterfront Hotel July 1-4 for the fourth National Catholic Diaconate Conference. Participants came from as far away as Hawaii, Washington state, Maine and the U.S. Virgin Islands to share stories about their experiences in ministry and to hear speakers from across the country and around the world. "This allows a great networking" opportunity, said Father Patrick Carrion, director of the Office of Clergy Personnel for the Archdiocese of Baltimore. He planned the event with Deacon Anthony F. Norcio, assistant director of the Office of Clergy Personnel. "It is an opportunity for them to learn from other deacons and build camaraderie and support among themselves," the priest said. Deacon Norcio, a member of St. Mary Parish in Annapolis, said it is important "for the deacons to come together and share their experiences and grow in understanding of the ministry and service of people of God through Christ."
