BALTIMORE (CNS) -- Pope John Paul II has named a Baltimore archdiocesan priest, Msgr. Mitchell T. Rozanski, as an auxiliary bishop of Baltimore. Bishop-designate Rozanski, 45, has been pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church in Severna Park since 2000. The announcement was made by the Baltimore Archdiocese July 2. Bishop-designate Rozanski, who has been a priest for 20 years, will become the vicar for the archdiocese's eastern vicariate, which encompasses Baltimore, Anne Arundel and Harford counties. He will be replacing Bishop William C. Newman, who retired last year. His episcopal ordination will take place Aug. 24. Baltimore Cardinal William H. Keeler announced the appointment at a news conference July 2 on the steps of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Baltimore.
