Retreat-vacation combination thrives at Catholic Familyland

Published: 2004-06-28

PHILADELPHIA (CNS) -- Catholic families looking for a spiritual vacation getaway can find it at Catholic Familyland near Steubenville, Ohio. Familyland has 950 acres of woods, pools, hiking and horseback riding trails, sports fields, cabins and chapels for eucharistic adoration. "When families come here they learn what their role is as a family in the world," said Anna Thompson, spokeswoman for the Apostolate for Family Consecration, the organization that operates Catholic Familyland. "They learn what their role is as lay people in the world according to Pope John Paul II and what we can do to help them fulfill that role," she told The Catholic Standard & Times, newspaper of the Philadelphia Archdiocese. For four weeks every summer, the grounds are open to families from all over the world for Holy Family Fests. They rent cabins on the premises or stay in local hotels.
