Published: 2004-06-28
WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Pope John Paul II has appointed two new auxiliary bishops for the Archdiocese of New York. Msgr. Gerald T. Walsh, pastor of St. Elizabeth Parish in New York City, and Msgr. Dennis J. Sullivan, pastor of Sts. John and Paul Parish in the New York City suburb of Larchmont, N.Y., were named as auxiliaries. They are both priests of the New York Archdiocese. The appointments were announced June 28 in Washington by Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo, apostolic nuncio. They will be ordained to the episcopate Sept. 21. New York Cardinal Edward J. Egan called the two bishop-designates "shepherds after the heart of the Good Shepherd" in a June 28 statement. "I look forward to working with them over the years that lie ahead," he added. "We are greatly blessed by their accepting new and burdensome responsibilities."
