JERICHO, Vt. (CNS) -- A Vermont parish and its Knights of Columbus council hoped to lure families into a healthy hobby by co-sponsoring a "Let's Go Fishing" workshop with the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department. "We're new to the state, and we want to introduce our daughter to outdoor activities here," said Ruth Dienemann, who lives with her family in Williston. "Fishing is a good, healthy, family outdoor activity." And that's just what the sponsors wanted to promote. "We want to introduce youngsters at an early age to a worthwhile hobby," Frank Babicz, grand knight of St. Thomas Council No. 7810, told the Vermont Catholic Tribune, newspaper of the Burlington Diocese. "Fishing is a sportsmanlike hobby (and) we hope will keep them from drugs and being bored." This is the first time the council had sponsored such an event, and other sponsors were St. Thomas Parish in Underhill Center and the Mills Riverside Park in Jericho. Babicz said he grew up fishing in the Utica, N.Y., area and found it to be a good diversion and a great hobby.
