Flynn to assist Massachusetts bishops in policy education campaign
Published: 2004-06-23
BOSTON (CNS) -- The Massachusetts Catholic Conference, public policy arm of the church in the commonwealth, announced in mid-June that it is enlisting the help of Raymond L. Flynn, former Boston mayor and ambassador to the Vatican, in launching a new, nonpartisan public policy education campaign for Catholics throughout Massachusetts. Archbishop Sean P. O'Malley of Boston pledged the church's "complete cooperation" with Flynn's efforts. "The great challenge exists in society today for Americans to become more informed about the many important public issues of the day. This is especially the case with the Catholic faithful," the archbishop said in a statement. "Nobody is more capable, or has shown more loyalty, to help in this objective than Ambassador Flynn," he said. "He has been a courageous, effective and compassionate political voice in America for social and economic justice, and his knowledge and experience will be a great asset to the many concerned Catholics who strive to be informed voters, patriotic citizens and loyal Catholics."
