Down syndrome student graduates from Nashville Catholic school
Published: 2004-06-18
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CNS) -- Anticipating the tears that would likely be shed during her daughter's eighth-grade graduation ceremony at Christ the King School in Nashville, Natalie Krieg brought along plenty of tissues. "It's amazing to me that we've made it," she said. When Natalie and Mitch Krieg's daughter, Taylor, graduated from Christ the King School this June, she became the first student with Down syndrome in the Nashville Diocese to complete nine years of Catholic schooling. Parents and teachers who have watched Taylor grow up over the last nine years said she had a profound effect on the class of 2004 and the entire Christ the King community. "Everyone at this school knows Taylor Krieg," said eighth-grade teacher Larry Langley. "She has made a real difference in the school population in terms of acceptance and tolerance."
