Published: 2004-06-17
WASHINGTON (CNS) -- The PBS religion news series, "Religion & Ethics NewsWeekly," has received funding for an eighth season from the Lilly Endowment. For the 2004-05 season, the endowment will contribute $6.25 million for production, education outreach and publicity costs. The endowment had given $6.4 million for the current season, which ends in August. Additional funding for the upcoming season is being provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and Mutual of America Life Insurance Co. The Lilly Endowment has been one of the principal funders of "Religion & Ethics NewsWeekly" since its inception in 1997. It was the program's sole funder for its first season, and has been contributing more than $6 million per year to finance it since. Even at the time of the first season, it was the largest single project funded by the endowment.
