Published: 2004-06-15
WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Harry Forbes, who worked for nearly 20 years as a PBS publicist, has been selected as the new director of the U.S. bishops' Office for Film & Broadcasting. Forbes, currently a theater critic for the New York City publication Back Stage, began the job June 14. He succeeds Gerri Pare, who opted to take an early-retirement package from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops after 14 years in the office, which is part of the U.S. bishops' Department of Communications. The announcement was made June 14 in Washington. Forbes will work out of the office's headquarters in New York City. Forbes assisted in the launch of many high-profile PBS series, including "Ken Burns' American Stories," "American Family" and "Now with Bill Moyers." He also planned and produced the public relations initiatives for many of PBS' children's programs.
