Bishop's blog gives Tucson Catholics glimpse inside 'ad limina' visit
Published: 2004-06-09
VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- This year's "ad limina" visits by U.S. bishops are taking place behind the Vatican walls, far from their dioceses. But one bishop's blog has bridged the communication gap with Catholics back home. When the faithful of the Diocese of Tucson wanted to know what Bishop Gerald F. Kicanas was up to in Rome, they simply clicked onto his daily Web log at www.diocesetucson.org/adlimina.html. There they learned details of his closed-door meetings, got a brief report on the pope's health and tracked the bishop's early-morning runs through Rome. The blog mixed firsthand accounts with information heard through the Vatican grapevine, and revealed a more human side of the Vatican's bureaucracy. Some of the issues on the minds of Vatican officials are those U.S. Catholics are talking about these days.
