Two Philadelphia priests named auxiliary bishops

WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Two Philadelphia priests have been named auxiliary bishops of the Philadelphia Archdiocese by Pope John Paul II. They are Msgr. Joseph Cistone, the archdiocesan vicar for administration, and Msgr. Joseph McFadden, pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Downington, Pa. The appointments were announced June 8 in Washington by Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo, apostolic nuncio. Bishop-designate Cistone, 55, was born May 18, 1949, in Philadelphia. He attended Our Lady of Consolation Grade School and Father Judge High School in Philadelphia, and went on to St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia, where he earned a master's degree in divinity. Bishop-designate Cistone has been a trustee of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary and a member of the Pennsylvania Catholic Conference as well as the Philadelphia Archdiocese's College of Consultors, priest personnel board and presbyteral council. Born May 22, 1947, Bishop-designate McFadden, 57, attended St. Joseph University in Philadelphia and St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, where he earned a master's degree in divinity. Since 1993, he has been an adjunct spiritual director at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, a member of the archdiocesan Committee for the Ongoing Formation of the Clergy, and a mentor in the archdiocese's Pastoral Leadership Institute.
