Detroit, Los Angeles cardinals place friendly bet on NBA championship
Published: 2004-06-07
DETROIT (CNS) -- The Detroit Pistons now have a real incentive to win the National Basketball Association championship this year. With the Pistons and Los Angeles Lakers embroiled in a best-of-seven series for the NBA title, Cardinal Adam J. Maida of Detroit and Cardinal Roger M. Mahony of Los Angeles have placed a friendly wager on the game. If the Pistons win, Cardinal Mahony will give the Archdiocese of Detroit a shipment of T-shirts and baked goods to be distributed to Detroit homeless shelters. Should the heavily favored Lakers prevail, Cardinal Maida will send a shipment of home-raised honey, jam and canned goods to Los Angeles to be distributed to low-income families.
